Clyde Daniel “Dan” “Matlock” Jones III

You have lost a friend you didn’t you had. Bryan, Texas lawyer Clyde Daniel “Dan” “Matlock” Jones III died January 17.

He was a fourth generation Texan, a former cop, a defense lawyer in the Twin Peaks fiasco and a valuable source for much of which I was able to tell you about that case.

Dan is survived by his wife, Steffani Michele Jones, his four children and numerous friends and relatives.
He will be buried at College Station Memorial Cemetery. He was a source of humor and sanity throughout the Twin Peaks mess. He was on the side of fairness and justice and he did not care who he offended.

The last time I heard from Jones was last October. He wrote:

In a widely anticipated move, the Boy Scouts of America announced today that all members would immediately begin wearing 1% diamond shaped patches and state bottom rockers on their uniforms.
The organization further stated they were officially changing their name to “The Boy Scouts of Anarchy” or simply “BSOA” for short. At a scheduled press conference this morning, BSOA National President Max “Square Knot” McClean stated, “We are prepared and we have as much a right to wear 1% as anyone else! For Pete’s sake, even the Campfire Girls wear 1% diamonds now!” He added that all Eagle Scouts would wear “NOMAD” bottom rockers.

Square Knot further explained that the Cub Scouts, as a BSOA support organization, would continue to wear a “13” patch but would not wear the 1% patch.

BSOA Task Force Detective Richard Head, an expert on the BSOA and on a lot of other stuff, told this reporter, “Typically for a Cub to become full-patched BSOA he must participate in a secretive initiation ceremony involving a female support group known as ‘The Brownies’.” Head further stated, “There are 12 principles in the BSOA Creed. The number 13 signifies that they have moved up to the next level, you know, beyond the Creed…and that should really scare everyone!”

Exact numbers are sketchy but it is estimated there are 2.3 million BSOA members across all 50 states.
Clyde Daniel “Dan” “Matlock” Jones III was just 55-years-old. This very minute he is telling jokes in paradise.

Requiscat in Pace.
