A Laffing Devil Speaks

All Posts, News

For more than six weeks, The Aging Rebel has sought comment about the Discovery Channel series The Devils Ride from either the production company, Bischoff Hervey Entertainment of Santa Monica, or from a member of, or spokesman for, the club. Last night a commenter who identified himself as Hawkster (photo above) a member of the club who was featured prominently in the show, left the following comment on this site.

Promotional materials for the television show describe Hawkster as a 48-year-old mechanic who has ridden with the club for three years. He is also the owner of the body shop the club previously used as a a clubhouse.

This page has not confirmed that the poster is that patch holder but believes the commenter is at least someone with inside knowledge of both the production and the club. Numerous statements in the comment are provably true and have not previously been stated here.

Because the show is controversial and because not all readers examine the comments that appear here, the full comment, slightly edited to include sub-headers and to better conform to AP Style Guidelines, is reproduced below.

The Laffing Devils

The Laffing Devils is a club of guys from every walk of life. Several former military, a few still active duty. Some own businesses and some have college degrees with corporate jobs. Most have families and are responsible people of society. We came together as many do in other clubs, for the brotherhood, camaraderie and the extended family that many seek.

The club was founded Dec. 2006, members of the local C.O.C. (Confederation of Clubs) and trademarked Laffing Devils MC in 2010.

We have always been known for the support we give to other clubs and charities. We have never been known as or claimed to be a 1% club nor have we ever acted like one. Although many have thought we were a support club, that is not at all true.

We seemed to be one of the highest respected clubs around because of who we were and how we treated everyone with respect.

Four Years Ago

Four years ago the Devils were approached by a film company with the idea (for the show). They (the producers) made a three minute promo DVD to send to the networks. Time went by and no one seemed interested and it was all but forgotten. Last summer Discovery Channel came a calling and they started filming last fall.

Tommy seemed to have made all of the deals with network until he was forced out, then Billy took over.

People think there was a lot of money in it for The Devils, but in fact, it was peanuts after it was divided up. It is a fact that Tommy took off with as much as he could get his hands on and whatever side deals he had made with them.

Tommy Quinn AKA “Gipsy” and as he has portrayed on the show, a bounty hunter too, sold the Devils out in more ways than one. First, telling the club he cleared it with the EVERYONE about his wife, Carla being a cop for the San Diego PD. then lying about it in the first episode of the show. The bullshit story line of how “Gipsy” left the club, was only known by him, the “FORMER” Prez Billy, and of course the show itself. For obvious reasons, they couldn’t tell the truth as then, that would bring politics in to it.

Yes Billy is no longer in the club!

Producers Lied

The bottom line is, The Devils were told they would be portrayed as who and what they really were and nothing more, or we wouldn’t have thought twice about doing it.

After seeing the first advertisements for The Devils Ride we knew we were fucked but by then couldn’t do anything about it but we were still hopefully optimistic that it would turn out as we were told it would. We filmed for months and so much of what we filmed never was shown. The film crew went with us on several poker runs and rides that included charities. We were also involved in the planning for the biggest event I have ever been a part of, that was the world wide known ride called, “100 Bikes For Josiah.” We were a part of 4,300 bikes that rode by the boy’s house, making his wish come true and they didn’t put that on TV.

I can go on and on but you get the gist of it.

Unfortunately for the club, The Devils Ride show with the assistance of Tommy and Billy, has been all but destroyed. Not saying we aren’t at some fault too, but we never dreamed it would of come to this.

I also would like to thank all for your kind words for our Brother JUICE may he RIP,

HAWKSTER LDMC

dear arealcop; i want you to know that your comment gave me the crawling creeps.it was like experiencing the mind of a sociopath who, having a woman hanging by her ankles from his ceiling in the dungeon, is calmly reading to her the birthday cards he extracted from her mailbox on that day and explaining that before he killed her he wanted her to know that she was loved and appreciated and that she will, while dying screaming, at least will not be dying friendless. that’s how fucking creepy it was and that’s how fucking creepy YOU are. just so you know. asshole.

I watch very few reality shows. But Devils Ride is one I do watch. Just watched Season 2 Episode 6 tonight which lead me here. Ironic.

So you have two MC’s LDMC and SMMC, competing for respect of a 1% MC, who has been a part of the show since the first episode this season, who placed spies in the two MC’s to see what each was doing. Culminating into a royal rumble in a unknown location to law enforcement. Just when both clubs showed up to rumble, the 1% show up, demand allegiance, the LD’s throw the cuts down and ride off (except Sandman who is locked up) and SM ride off with the 1%rs to the leaders over the top evil laugh.

Since Season 1, Episode 1, I knew this was “real” scripted life. I mean Eric Bichoff is attached. He is the biggest name in WWE or WWF for his promotional skills. As I watched with my lady we laughed, we cried, and we continued to watch to see what could possibly happen next. Both of us have some experience with the MC world. We quickly could point out whats real and fake about the show. After reaching out to a few of the shows stars, we were able to confirm our theories. Its been entertaining.

That being said, I can say with full conviction, these were real people, and a small few actually understood what an MC is. However, they got caught in the crossfire, signed contracts, and well, became a joke. Unfortunately, a few good men got caught in guilt by association. You are correct, no “outlaw” club would ever let a camera crew film evidence. This is a show, for entertainment, to provide a softer side (damage control?) for the bad rap MC’s get. I believe the intent was there to make a good name, but contracts and legalese postured up, and by that time it was too late.

LDMC is no more, according to the show. Unless Sandman gets out of prison. He is the only one that didnt turn his cut over. Feel the suspense brewing? Which leaves the 1% club last man standing, and if the show continues, it will be following them around?

It kind of reminds me of SOA. FACTION. Part real, mostly fake. Kurt Sutter employed real people to provide advice on real clubs to make it authentic. That doesnt take away from Sonny Bargers history just because he was an advisor to the show. Anyone who believes SAMCRO is a real MC has missed the lesson of these shows.

In the end, there are MCs out there for everyone. It is a life of brotherhood, family, and like minded people to band together and ride. Not all MCs are outlaw, and not all outlaws belong to an MC. (Look at cops) Even the news reports what makes money by getting ratings. If its on tv, it cant be trusted 100%. But Ive gotten to know a few of the men on Devils Ride, and they real, and passionate. And human.

With l that being said, keep the shiny side up and the rubber on the road.

  3. Joe Sarge Says:

Ok. So I read quite a few posts just out of curiosity to see how many times SOA would be mentioned (12 if you’re curious). I will say first off, I’m not in an MC nor do I profess to be an expert on the lifestyle or make-up that goes into becoming a member of one. Having said that, I will say that just like any other TV show, SOA or otherwise, there will always be a great amount of sensationalism brought on by the media and the ratings that drive them forward. It is almost sad to see that there are people actually wearing some of the SOA gear that exists as if they are actual members! Listen, I have a favorite fictional character from the show, but I know his real name is Tommy Flanagan for crying out loud. And to be honest, if these people did exist, they would want NOTHING to do with a guy like me (or any of you hacks who think you are actually a part of something because you forked over some money online for a jacket!)I will say that these shows do have a significant place for MC/RC’s: They are excellent recruiting channels! The scary part is those who are out there wishing to get involved for all of the over-exploited issues we see on reality tv and fictional shows. I think those of you who are involved in an actual club should just keep doing your thing, while making sure the community understands what you stand for and who you really are! Be safe fellas!

The how is produced by Eric Bitchoff. The same dude who failed at trying to tople WWE and ran WCW into the ground. Which hes never gotten over BTW. I wouldn’t trust anything that idiot has to offer at any time nor believe anything he says.

I have no faith in the reality of a show that is produced by Eric Bischoff.. for the pass 20 yrs or more he has been behind the scenes and the master of puppets in the Professional Wrestling Business. where everything is scripted down to every move, word spoken and who has a title shot..

As a wrestling fan, you know its just plain entertainment and fake. So how much of this reality show of an MC is 100% reality or make believe..

I dont think a real MC would like to air there business on a TV program that goes national around the world.

It just does not make sense!!!

As a Veteran I am wondering what is true? Was Gipsy really a veteran and I tell you what, Billy is a wimp.

dear arealcop: thank you for your idiotic input into a situation and discussion far above your competence level. as in real life, a cop intruding into the world of letters and prose wastes no time in mucking up the waters. it is not surprising at least to me that you would use as your justification for the useless job-description you hold the fact that actual once-upon-a-time real heroes and brave individuals now do the same thing you do as an argument that you yourself have a worthwhile job. you dont. and neither do the former soldiers and combatants who have decided to live out the rest of their lives as complete assholes. they no longer have worthwhile jobs either. or worthwhile souls for that matter. they have decided, for one reason or another, to degrade themselves to a degree that makes whores look like canonized saints. which in fact they are, compared to what american cops are. i hope the next time you decide to sully these pages with your stupid analysis of right and wrong and your total inability to get either of them straight that I am lucky enough to read it so that i can make a mockery of you, of your cohorts, of your family – all the members of which very likely detest you, especially your children who will likely end up either in jail or as career criminals on a police department, as I am making a mockery of you now. which is not at all hard to do, you being a cop.

dear arealcop: any American combatant who becomes an American cop is just someone who goes from fucking-up the enemy to fucking-up the people he used to defend. I dont see anything noble or pride-worthy in that. i see that as going from warrior to bully. it’s a step down: not a move parallel.

You guys are a joke, ooooo we are a bunch of pussy badasses on tv you know nothing about being in a real MC – The Hells Angels are the real deal- you guys are a bunch of wannabe actors on TV trying to be bikers.

  12. Forgotten One Says:

I’ve watched the show and a few things jumped out at me. The episode where the Devil’s go to repo the bike for Rusty…. The dude they were repoing it from was miked up. How does THAT happen unless it’s a scripted scene? Parabolic mikes would have picked up a lot more than just his voice.

Then the scene where the dude shows up for a drag race in his caddy…. Seriously?

Or the scenes where these guys are committing felonies, yet none of them have taken a bust. It’s almost a prody of reality television. If it wasn’t spreading the wrong idea about the MC life and the reason MOST of us ride in the first place, it would be laughable…

  13. tomkat Says:

I’ve seen a few episodes of “the devils ride”. and I laughed so hard.
It just kept getting more ridicules I mean what are these guys beefing or should I say bitching about? .there’s no hot chicks WTF?, they snitch on dealers that fight scene in the alley was so gay!!!!!.fukin west side story they couldn’t have looked more gay if they were dancing and snapping they’re fingers .the more the see guys try to get all stuff the lamer they come off .I don’t get it? Did they all have fake mug shots on the wall of they’re club house? Talk about desperate for street cred as if th at would entitle any one to some I now money will make people do some stupid shit but talk about shameless and pathetic oh well

  14. ShoeingCowboy Says:

Wow, these clowns need to go!!! I just saw on saddle tramps Facebook, that idiot sandman admitted his crime, cop calling sissies why are they allowed to even be patch wearing idiots. Unless they are good smoke cover, lmao

  15. Specter Says:

    @chris in Monterey.

Had you bothered to read all the posts and the other threads put up buy Rebel, you would know that we know this show is fake…. But since you are a TROLL you wouldn’t know that…

You are the weakest link… Goodbye

  16. CHRIS "DOWN IN MONTEREY!" Says:

WOW. I MEAN FUCKING WOW. I couldn’t stomach reading every post but you guys do know that this whole LAUGHING DUMMIES thing is totally fake right?

  17. Evil E Says:

The LDMC should be dismembered by the first real club to get to SD. I’m sure I could do it in half an hour. Your fights are so fake it’s silly! Hire a fight coordinator or actually fight you posers!
Between that and the multiple felonies you commit every show with your threats of murder and the like, you should be ashamed of yourselves…as well as every 1% club world wide. LDMC…jagoffs!

  18. Drew Thompson Says:

Man, OCD can be a mofo.

I’ve watched all up to I think Season 2 Ep 6, except I can’t find Season 1 Ep 6 anywhere (where I think Gipsy attacks a stereo).

So, most of it is obviously scripted and fake, except they seem to be getting some real MC people in Season 2, playing the Sin Mob characters.

Then there was the scene with the Brotherhood MC doing a sit down with DB. These guys are wearing full 3 piece patches with the 1% diamond, and nothing is blurred. They have a website with the same logo. (http://www.brotherhoodmotorcycleclub.com/)

So, I’m curious. Are these guys the real deal? How is it they agreed to be on Devils Ride? Rebel, if can stand to do more commentary on Devils Ride, and if you have info on this, I’d like to hear it.

Their logo makes me think of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (http://www.ibew.org/). There ARE some badasses in the IBEW, so it’s not out of the question for some of them to form an MC, maybe even a 1% one. Members of IBEW would be found on movie and tv show sets doing lighting, etc.

Still got a couple of episodes of this train wreck to watch. (Gotta see how Season 2 ends, on account of the OCD.)

Ummm, let’s see, another nerdy sign off:
    Try Linux. It’s free!

“Drew” (Still alive one episode before the finale!)

    Oh: Clicking the ads, Rebel!
