Who Hall Killed
George “Boo Boo” Lopez of Stockton was a long-time member of the Hells Angels California Nomads charter. He was riding in a pack with several other Angels on his way to a Saturday night party at the Oakland clubhouse when he died.
In addition to his club brothers, Lopez was survived by his brother, John Corpus of Stockton; his sister, Rose Toloy of Somerset, California, his daughter, Andrea Lopez and four grandchildren.
He was buried November 11.
How Hall Did It
According to witnesses, Hall’s mini-bus was empty when he pulled up next to the pack near the Grand Avenue exit near Interstate 580 in San Leandro. Hall’s shift was over and he was on his way to a bus parking lot in Oakland.
According to a declaration by San Leandro police Detective Anthony Morgan Hall “was upset at the time because of the driving behavior of others and the behavior of the motorcyclists.” He “admitted to knowing the motorcycles were in the lane he intentionally swerved into and to knowing his actions would cause his bus to strike the motorcycle.”
Lopez was thrown from his motorcycle after Hall ran into him and the bike was trapped under the bus. Hall fled the scene and continued for more than a mile until the motorcycle caught fire. He then pulled over, abandoned the bus and the burning bike, hopped a fence and ran into a neighborhood in San Leandro where he was captured by Alameda County Sheriffs.
Hall also attempted to escape during his interrogation at the San Leandro police station after he was arrested. A San Leandro Police spokesman said, “The door in our interview room was open briefly and he darted out and into our offices, but he was quickly captured.”
The attempted escape charges were later dropped.
