New Hampshire Crash

At least seven members of the Jarheads Motorcycle Club were killed as their pack collided with a 2016 Dodge 2500 pickup truck at about 6:30 p.m. on U.S. Route 2 in Randolph, New Hampshire. Three more Jarheads were hospitalized. At least one is in critical condition.

The Jarheads wear a three-piece-patch. They have multiple chapters in New England. They are comprised of honorably discharged United States Marines and Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen.

The Jarheads had ridden to northern New Hampshire, about three hours north of Boston, to attend the Great North Woods Motorcycle Blessing in Colebrook today.

According to multiple sources, at least some of the Jarheads were staying at the nearby Inn At Bowman. The crash happened within sight of the Inn.

Good Samaritans

According to NPR, Jerry Hamanne who owns the Inn, witnessed the accident. “It was so devastating to see the bodies on the road,” Hamanne said. “My God, I don’t want to see something like this again.”

Hamanne immediately knocked on the door of a neurologist named Beatrice Engstrand, who was also staying at the Inn. “At least three bikers were thrown into the woods and there were flames over 20 feet high,” Engstrand told NPR. “The motorcycles were all chopped up all over the roads and there were bodies everywhere and people crying.”

Engstrand and Hamanne treated the injured until paramedics arrived.

The road, which is the major east-west route across northern New Hampshire was closed for 12 hours. The pickup truck was destroyed by flames. According to witnesses, the truck driver survived. Authorities have been reluctantly to release details of the crash. There will be a State Police news conference this afternoon at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

“Volodoymyr Zhukovskyy, 23, of West Springfield, Mass. was identified as the driver of the 2016 black Dodge 2500 pickup truck whose flatbed trailer slammed into 10 motorcycles at 6:30 p.m. near Lowe’s Garage and Cabins in Randolph.

‘At this stage we have no arrests but I will pursue every lead and avenue available and in that regard I am asking for the public’s assistance in this matter,’ said Coos County Attorney John McCormick.

This happened just down the road. I ride Route 2 on nearly a daily basis, since it is the only East-West route north of the 44th.
