Sometimes Nobody Wins

Two men in Lake County, Illinois got into an argument on the road about 7:30 p.m. Saturday near the Six Flags Great America Amusement Park north of Chicago. Police described the argument as a “traffic altercation.”

Thirty-six-year-old Ramon Quiroz was driving a 1999 Ford Escort. Fourty-six-year-old Michael P. Abbinanti was riding a 1997 Harley-Davidson.

Near the intersection of Illinois Route 120 and Interstate 94, Quiroz drove his automobile onto the Route 120 median. Abbinanti parked his motorcycle by the side of the road, and approached Quiroz’ car. The men had a blunt and excited conversation that ended with Abbinanti stabbing Quiroz three times. Police described the stab wounds as “non-life threatening.”

Abbinanti might have escaped but as he turned to leave his motorcycle was struck by a passing motorist who dutifully reported the accident to police.

When police arrived they arrested Abbinanti and transported Quiroz to a nearby hospital.

Abbinanti was charged with three counts of aggravated battery. He was released from the Lake County Jail after posting a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to next appear in court on November 1.

Quiroz was arrested at the hospital and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. He has a court date of November 15

Shovelhead, you’re right, it does depend on your AO.

I moved out of the city in 1979 because I was damn tired of having to carry a piece every day. Well, I still had to, but SOME days I could skip it when I lived in the ‘burbs.

But it’s always been that way, and it sure hasn’t changed just because they’ve got concealed carry now. Anyone that’s out on the street should be assumed to be armed, whether it’s a gun or a knife, and really, the knife will trump the gun if it’s close quarters and fast moving.

Thank God we finally got all that killing under control in Maine and Vermont

    Jim Bob,
Yeah, It’s actually like that over here too. Too many drunken out of State people coming up and shooting anything that moves.
They should be treated like a dog chasing a dear! I remember some years back, hunters found a body in the woods, been shot. Make a long story short, the guy was shot somewhere else and dumped in the woods during dear hunting season to make it look like an accident.

  4. Jim Bob Says:

@Shovelhead- I live in Vermont and here they pretty much treat anyone shot in a hunting accident as an attempted assault/murder right off the bat and they won’t rule it an accident until all reasonable doubt has been checked out. I think they came to that line of reasoning after a guy shot his buddy thinking he was a deer…..up in a tree stand.

    Sieg,
I guess it depends on where you live. Up here in the Maine woods, these crazy fuckers all carry guns. Been that way my whole life. Even the Moose carry!
Not too many shootings though, probably because they’re all related and they’ll be in the shit with some relative if they did shoot. Besides, If you know everyone is carrying, you Let things go!
Just watch out during hunting season. Accidents happen all the time!
