Rockford Angels On Trial

Five members of the Rockford charter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club went on trial yesterday to answer charges stemming from the severe beating of a former charter president on June 27, 2013.

After going to a local hospital for treatment Josh Johnson, the former charter president, complained that he had been hit with an ax handle, punched, and struck with brass knuckles and a hammer. At the time, police alleged that members of the Hells Angels, acting as a mob, stole the victim’s wallet, keys and truck and detained an 11-year-old girl while Johnson was assaulted.

This Part’s Complicated

A month after the incident, 14 men were arrested and charged with armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping of a child younger than 13, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated battery with a Taser, aggravated battery with a knife, aggra- vated battery with an ax handle and mob action. Almost immediately, half of the original defendants pled guilty to lesser charges and were all sentenced to two years probation. In late August, as they were about to go to trial, the charges were dis- missed against Richard L. Todd, Robert A. Bell, John R. Savalick, Tomasz Lech, Aloysius J. Balice, Christopher L. Lawson and Jose P. Vielma Jr. when Johnson declined to testify against them. The day after the dismissal, State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato, issued a statement claiming that the charges were dropped because he had “to consider the safety of all witnesses.”

The charges against the seven were refiled in December 2014. Bell’s case was dismissed in March 2016. Then there were six defendants. Balice still doesn’t have a court date.

Which leaves Todd, Savalick, Lech, Lawson and Vielma who went on trial yesterday. Lech and Vielma are being tried by a jury. The other three are being tried by Judge Joseph McGraw.

Self Defense

Johnson, who is a large and accomplished mixed martial artist, was put out bad on June 27, 2013 for stealing from his club and allegedly “working undercover with the police.” A defense attorney named Chris Humphrey told the court that “Josh Johnson was no longer suitable to be a member of the Hells Angels.”

Johnson was compelled by force to relinquish his symbols of club membership and other property he had used to guarantee his membership in good standing.

Johnson took his 11-year-old daughter to the chapter meeting at which was expelled from his club. The girl is now 15. She testified yesterday that two club prospects took her to a convenience store and bought her ice cream then arranged for her baby sitter to pick her up.

Defense attorneys suggest the accused men acted appropriately in self defense after Johnson reacted violently to his expulsion from his club.

14 people sounds to me like every member and prospect in the entire charter took a unanimous stand. You just dont see that.

    Sieg, spot on.
Adios, If you are as well informed as you claim, which I doubt, you should not have commented, period.

  3. Phuquehed Says:

Fucking rat punk bitch brings his daughter to a meeting *knowing* he’s going to get pot out bad, hoping he can take swings but no one will swing against him because he’s no better than a raghead using his daughter as a shield.

Such a shame that upstanding members have to go down for such a useless fuck as Johnson.

We all know that when going out bad there is an education process. Usually means a pretty good fight especially when the club has to take back ink. No child should be present for any of that process so I think the prospects did the right thing by taking the kid for ice cream and then notifying the child babysitter to come get her. Since the parent or guardian did not give permission of course the state is going to use that to prosecute. We also know how expensive it is to be in a motorcycle club with all the motorcycle repairs motorcycle runs and absorbent legal expenses. Too many times I have seen t shirt sales vrs money not add up. The culprit is usually found fairly quickly and put out bad as an example to other members that club funds are off limits. It is not surprising at all that after the fact the individual decided to press charges has a way of retaliation and this case ultimately should be dismissed.

  5. Paladin Says:

A Club’s P. is generally elected by a majority vote of its members. There has to be a pretty good reason as to why the Club’s members turned on their P. In any event, it’s no one’s business but the Club’s.

  6. Big Jim Says:

The prospects take the kid for ice cream. I love it.

  7. bcnasty Says:

Three sides to every story comes to mind. His, theirs ,and the truth. We can all guess and comment but if was not there do not know the truth.

  8. Painfully Weeping Says:

He stole from the Club, worked undercover as Charter Prez and then ratted out the (former) Club after his àss was beat. Who in the Fûck takes their 11 year old daughter to a Club meeting especially when you had a damn good idea it was going to be heated? He used his own kid as a shield, what a cunt.

  9. Iron Rider Says:

The club will look after it’s own in good times and in bad times, it doesnt matter who you are in the club, your action reflect on your brothers and the club. To steal from your own brothers and club is a major taboo and you have to be one dumb motherfucker to think your going to get a pass no matter what status you hold.

I sure dont think taking an 11 yr old for ice cream is kidnapping, that looks to me like the cops trying to make things look worse than they were, imagine that.

@Adios… Not my Business but I will take your word for it. I shouldn’t have even commented. It just seemed strange.

…thank you for the words of wisdom about the author of a recently released book ! I did read the book and your opinion was “dead on” months ago ! Thanks again for your guidance !

  14. Adios Says:

Gandolph I am a lot better informed than you realize but I won’t comment further in a public forum

  15. Gandalf Says:

@ Adios… If the members wanted to sling dope so bad wouldn’t the right thing to do be to Quit as Charter Pres and/or move to another Charter wishing His brothers Luck in their endeavor? I usually don’t comment on anything but the Twin Peaks stuff but I read everything and your comment smells like BS to me.

  16. Curbside Says:

A couple of prospects took her to the Kwik-E-Mart for some ice cream? How the fuck is that “aggravated kidnapping”? Is there something we’re missing here, like maybe she’s lactose-intolerant?

  17. TX_Biker Says:

Well the answer is obvious, the president pissed everyone off and got his ass beat. That’s what happens when you shit on your brothers.

  18. Adios Says:

Stealing from the club means he wanted to stop slinging drugs from the clubhouse

  19. Wild Bill Says:

I’d say the Prospects at the time handled that situation well.

  20. Sieg Says:

“…Josh Johnson, the former charter president, complained …”

Tells ya all ya need to know, right there.
