Just when you think the aftermath of the Twin Peaks Massacre can’t get weirder, it does. Waco police spokesman W. Patrick Swanton is running for McLennan County Sheriff.
Swanton spent three full days in the world spotlight last May after nine men were killed, 18 were hospitalized and 177 more had their lives ruined following the worst incident of biker violence in history. Since then judges, prosecutors, policemen and other public officials down to and including game wardens have made a complete mockery of the Constitution – ignoring the laws they do not like, inventing new ones they like better, lying with impunity, exercising a North Korean style contempt for public scrutiny – and their head cheerleader has been Swanton; a dissembling, braying jackass of a man with off the charts self esteem.
Swanton declared himself to be the sole, credible source of information about the biker massacre and so we all learned: The Central Texas Marketplace shopping center was shut down because of “significant danger of outlaw biker groups coming in;” Waco “will not tolerate criminal behavior;” Waco’s police “will do what we have to do to make Waco safe for our citizens;” “We are getting intel;” “there is a lot of evidence to process;” “the absolute, utmost support we have received from our community;” “we will be brutally honest;” “law enforcement officers are providing security for you folks here on the media scene;” “yes, we’ve eaten donuts;” “continue responsible reporting;” “if you don’t know if it’s a fact, please come to me and I will give you that information;” “if it doesn’t come from me it is not authorized to leave this scene;” “this was a criminal event that occurred here;” “high number of people jailed, killed, or injured were not from the Waco area. We know that for a fact.”
There was so much more. “A bunch of criminal element biker members that came to Waco and tried to instill violence into our community and unfortunately did just that…. This is not a bunch of doctors and dentists and lawyers riding Harleys. These are criminals on Harley-Davidsons.” Bikers were arming themselves with “grenades and C4 explosives.” As Swanton explained to Erin Burnett, one of CNN’s airhead in residence, “Unfortunately, in our line of work, it’s something we deal with day in and day out. I would, however, like to say this, to those that are listening that are making the threats: The incident that occurred here Sunday afternoon … was an absolute tragedy. However, those of you that were there know that we did absolutely nothing to start that. We would ask you to remember that and remind you that although you have totally different ways from us, law enforcement did not start the melee.”

Swanton named a campaign treasurer on July 17. Yesterday he told the Waco Tribune-Herald, “I’m very happy where I am right now. I really love what I’m doing for the Waco Police Department. I just think I can expand and provide to a larger population with what I’m capable of doing…. I love this community, and I feel like I have so much more to offer. Right now, I’m kind of bound by the city of Waco borders.”
It is not yet known if Swanton has hired a theatrical or literary agent or if he has plans to run for President.
